Hardie Grant has announced the appointment of Simon Davis to the role of food and lifestyle publisher for Hardie Grant Books; UQP has appointed Kate Lloyd as sales and distribution manager, and Erin Sandiford as rights and contracts manager; and QBD Books will open its 87th store in the NSW central west town of Dubbo.

In awards news, the 2023 shortlists for the Ned Kelly Awards and the NSW Premier’s History Awards have both been announced, with winners to be revealed next month. The first ArtsPay Foundation grant recipients were also announced this week, with two writers among them.

In the US, after reports earlier this week that the sale of Simon & Schuster (S&S) would soon be announced, Paramount Global—the owner of S&S—and private equity firm KKR yesterday announced an agreement for KKR to acquire S&S for US$1.62 (A$2.47) billion in an all-cash transaction. Also in the US, a magistrate judge has found that the monopoly suit against Amazon should proceed, while recommending that a class action lawsuit accusing the Big Five publishers of colluding with the retailer to fix eBook prices should be dismissed.
