PRH acquires two McInerney titles
Penguin Random House (PRH) Australia has acquired ANZ rights for a new novel, When Sullivan Met Lola, and a new work of collected nonfiction from Monica McInerney, via Fiona Inglis at Curtis Brown.
According to the publisher, When Sullivan Met Lola brings together two of McInerney’s previous characters into ‘a warm, funny and moving novel about unexpected friendships, lost loves, family secrets and long-hidden lies’. McInerney’s new nonfiction work, Girl on a Roof, is ‘a collection of essays that takes readers into the heart of a writer’s mind and explores the unexpected joys and sorrows of life’.
McInerney (Marcie Gill and the Caravan Park Cat, The Trip of a Lifetime) is the author of 13 books for adults, including The Godmothers, which was shortlisted for the 2021 ABIA General Fiction Book of the Year. McInerney lives between Australia and Ireland.
Discussing the acquisition, McInerney said: ‘I am very grateful to my agent Fiona Inglis and to my readers and Australian booksellers for their patience while I took my recent long service leave. I can’t wait for publication and the chance to meet as many booklovers as possible when I’m on tour again.’
PRH publisher Ali Watts said: ‘When Sullivan Met Lola is a delightful novel about human connection at a time when the world has never needed it more, and the collected essays will give fans a fascinating insight into the life of one of their favourite writers, including why it has been such a while between books.’
PRH plans to release When Sullivan Met Lola in 2026 and Girl on a Roof in 2027.
