Neilma Sidney Literary Travel Fund round 13 recipients announced

Writers Victoria has announced the recipients of the 13th round of the Neilma Sidney Literary Travel Fund.

The eight recipients – who will share the $50,595 in funding  – are:

  • Novelist and poet Clare Atkins  – to travel to Vietnam to work on ‘Red, Yellow Green’, a historical fiction novel about three generations of a Vietnamese-Australian family
  • Books+Publishing publishing director Kate Cuthbert – for the staff of Books+Publishing to attend regional and remote festivals to provide coverage of events that are not among the mainstays of the literary calendar
  • Writer Bradley David  – to travel to Manchester, UK, to undertake research and work on his project ‘Think of Yourself as Plural: A Novel on the Trail of Inheritance, Liminal Bodies, and Chromotrope Diasporas’
  • Author, editor and translator Jennifer Down – to attend a month-long artist residency in rural Connecticut, USA, to work on her fourth book
  • Author Emily Maguire  – to travel to Rome to research a novel as part of a thematic trilogy inspired by three women said to be behind the story of a female pope
  • Artist, illustrator and writer Lisette Muratore – to travel to Gambier Islands, French Polynesia, to conduct research for her project on atomic testing
  • Writer and teacher Ernest Price  – to travel to the US to undertake research about the rise of far-right extremism
  • Writer and photographer Inga Simpson  – to travel to Ushuaia, Argentina, to join an Antarctic Peninsula expedition as part of her research for a novel titled ‘The Memory of Ice’.

The judges for this round included author, publisher and editor Xavier Hennekinne; writer, critic and librarian Giselle Au-Nhien Nguyen; and programming manager Christine Gordon.
