Writing Australia Council appointed
Minister for the Arts Tony Burke has today launched Writing Australia in a statement, which also includes the announcement of the new Writing Australia Council members.
Members are:

- Sarah Holland-Batt
- Tim Jarvis
- Tommy Murphy
- Julie Pinkham
- Claire Pullen
- Sally Rippin
- Christos Tsiolkas.
With over $26 million in government funding pledged over three years, Writing Australia is a new peak body aimed at supporting and promoting the Australian literature sector and the development of markets and audiences for Australian literature. In addition to its role investing in Australian literature, the new organisation is also set to deliver the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards starting this year.
The Writing Australia Council’s role will be to ‘provide strategic advice and recommendations regarding the priority investment, development, and research needs of the book industry in Australia,’ said Creative Australia.
