Larrikin acquires Kelly debut picture book

Larrikin House has acquired world rights to Celebration Festival, a debut picture book by Alysia Kelly, illustrated by Ruth-Mary Smith.

The publisher described the title as a resource aimed at teachers, parents and students who want to learn about different cultural celebrations.

In the book, protagonist Evie is judging a ‘grand Celebration Festival’ alongside Biscuit, her pup. The blurb asks, ‘With so many wonderful cultures to learn about and celebrations to discover, how will Evie choose a winner?’

Kelly is a teacher; Smith is an illustrator who works with paper goods and pattern designs, in addition to children’s books.

Said Kelly of the book: ‘I believe some of our best memories come from moments we celebrate – big or small. I wrote this story to explore colourful, quirky, and joyful celebrations from around the world.’

Larrikin plans to release the title in February 2026.
