Riveted Press acquires Farrell junior fiction trilogy

Riveted Press has acquired world rights to a junior fiction trilogy by debut author Anne Farrell.

The as-yet-untitled speculative fiction series is suitable for readers aged 6 years and above, featuring the adventures of a timid rakali. Rakalis – a type of Australian rodent sometimes also known as water-rats – take their name from the Ngarrindjeri language.

In the first book, ‘the young rakali, a reluctant hero who lives on the banks of the Parramatta River, has the help of an unlikely team in his quest to rescue his missing brother – including a human girl, a blunt-talking seagull, and a resourceful turtle,’ added the publisher.

Farrell is a Sydney-based debut author with a background in marketing and copywriting. She holds a master’s degree in professional writing. ‘The character and setting were inspired by riverside walks Anne took near her home,’ added the publisher.

She said of the deal, ‘I’m thrilled to have been contracted by Riveted Press, and hugely grateful to Romi Sharp and the Just Write for Kids Australia team for organising the Pitch It! competition that led to my manuscript being read and acquired.’

Riveted Press managing editor Rowena Beresford said: ‘Anne’s imaginative tales bring a little-known Australian animal into the spotlight, which we’re sure he will enjoy! We’re delighted to welcome Anne to Riveted Press and to be launching her debut as a published author.’

The first book in the trilogy is scheduled for publication in early 2026.
