Rix, Cormick win ACT Book of the Year
Darren Rix and Craig Cormick have won the ACT Book of the Year award for their title Warra Warra Wai (Scribner).
Rix and Cormick will share the $10,000 prize. Judges praised Warra Warra Wai for its “powerful and original storytelling”.
Highly commended in the awards was Lebanon Days by Theodore Ell (Atlantic), who will receive $2000. The other shortlisted authors – Andra Putnis for Stories My Grandmothers Didn’t Tell Me (A&U) and Qin Qin for Model Minority Gone Rogue (Hachette) – each receive $1000.
The awards were presented at a dedicated event during the Canberra Writers Festival.
The ACT Book of the Year aims to support the development of ACT-based writers, promote writing in the territory and contribute to a positive writing culture.
Last year’s winner was The Seven by Chris Hammer (A&U).
