Campos wins inaugural Kat Muscat Award

The inaugural winner of the $1000 Kat Muscat Award is Paula Campos for “Palm Trees, Piercings and a More Lowkey, Chill Place to Live”, which appeared in Voiceworks #136 “Quits!”.

This year, the Kat Muscat Fellowship became the Kat Muscat Award, presented to a Voiceworks contributor “whose writing best embodies the values of Kat’s personal mantra – defiance, feminism and empathy”.

Campos’s piece was selected by editor Joel Keith, and it was announced as the award winner at the physical launch of Voiceworks “Quits!” in Melbourne on 20 March.

The winner of the new annual award is selected by the editor of Voiceworks. Also as part of the award, an annual grant of $2000 is made to Voiceworks, “allowing Australia’s premiere youth literary journal to expand the opportunities it provides to writers under 25 across the country”.

Donations to the Kat Muscat Award fund can be made through the Australian Communities Foundation, and more information about the award can be found on the Express Media website.

Launched in 2015, the Kat Muscat Fellowship was named in honour of former Voiceworks editor Muscat, and offered professional development up to the value of $3000 for an editorial or writing project.
