Text acquires Szubanski memoir

Text Publishing has announced the acquisition of the memoir I Can’t Tell You But I Will by Magda Szubanski.

Szubanski is a comedian, actor and LGBT rights advocate. Her previous memoir, Reckoning (also Text), won Book of the Year at the 2016 Australian Book Industry Awards, as well as the Douglas Stewart Prize for Nonfiction in that year’s NSW Premier’s Literary Awards.

“Szubanski now gives us the must-read memoir for Christmas 2026,” said Text. “Powerful and tender, I Can’t Tell You But I Will describes how Magda was confronting the heartbreak of her mother’s decline while she stepped into the fight for same-sex marriage in Australia.”

The book “describes the true cost of caring, the courage it takes to keep going, and the impossible pull between public duty and private grief.”

I Can’t Tell You But I Will is scheduled for publication on 29 September.
