Allen & Unwin, Australia’s largest and most successful independent publishing company, and 15 times Publisher of the Year is looking for a Non-Fiction Publisher to join its adult publishing team in a full-time role.

This is a rare opportunity to take a senior position in a company renowned for its commitment to Australian writing and writers. The position can be based in Sydney or Melbourne.

You will be responsible for:

• Commissioning and publishing 15–20 new nonfiction titles per year, primarily in the areas of sport, autobiography, memoir, current affairs, Australian politics, Australian history, and popular culture
• Developing a list of books by Australian authors that make an impact both in the industry and the wider society, and which are commercially successful
• Working across the company with all other departments to collaboratively prepare your books for publication

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience as a strong, commercial publisher and can demonstrate the following:

• A proven track record of strong commercial instincts
• Excellent communication skills
• Well-developed editorial understanding
• A thorough knowledge of the Australian market
• And the passion, energy and judgment to add to an already outstanding team.
