PW conference on AI and book publishing

Publishers Weekly (PW) hosted an AI webinar, Artificial Intelligence: Revolution and Opportunity in Trade Publishing, on 27 September, led by digital publishing analyst Thad McIlroy and online strategy director Peter Brantley.

Sessions covered topics including AI and editorial, AI and marketing, AI and production, legal concerns surrounding AI and publishing, and a vision of the future of AI and trade book publishing.

In the first summary of the webinar, PW wrote that many speakers ‘suggested that despite serious questions and potential challenges, AI could augur positively for the book business’.

Among the guests was former Penguin Random House CEO Markus Dohle, who, in the opening keynote, called AI another digital ‘inflection point’ for publishers, as the internet has been, arguing that ‘the huge opportunities it offers outweigh by far the potential challenges and threats we need to meet’.

PW’s second summary of the webinar looked at first-hand accounts of how AI technology is impacting editorial, marketing and production operations.

Tickets to view the Artificial Intelligence: Revolution and Opportunity in Trade Publishing webinar can be purchased here until 27 October. PW will also run a second half-day webinar, AI Tools and Solutions for Book Publishers, on 21 February 2024, with more details to be announced soon.
