The Role
We are seeking an experienced and book-passionate Sales Manager to lead the growth of our B2B sales channel. This is a strategic and hands-on role for someone who thrives on building meaningful client relationships and has deep knowledge of the book industry. You’ll play a pivotal role in expanding our presence across schools, libraries, universities, and other large buyers.
The Mission
Develop, grow, and manage a successful institutional sales channel that positions The Nile as the preferred book supplier for educational and corporate clients throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Role Specifics
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with institutional clients, including schools, libraries, universities, and corporate buyers.
- Handle inbound sales inquiries: prepare quotes, respond promptly, and follow up to convert interest into orders.
- Identify and respond to tenders and procurement opportunities for institutional book supply.
- Conduct outbound prospecting – including phone calls and personalised outreach – to develop new client relationships.
- Lead and manage email marketing campaigns (EDMs) targeting institutional clients.
- Act as a subject matter expert on books and the broader publishing industry, offering informed recommendations and insights to clients.
- Manage a small offshore support team responsible for processing orders and handling customer service for institutional clients.
- Ensure high service standards and operational excellence to drive repeat business and long-term loyalty.
Hard Skills/Experience Requirements
Must have:
- Must be a “book person” – someone who habitually purchases and reads books and possesses genuine enthusiasm and familiarity with the world of books.
- 3+ years’ experience in a sales, account management, or business development role.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including a confident and professional phone manner.
- Experience working with institutional clients, ideally in education, library, or public sector environments.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative in a remote-first environment.
Good to have:
- Experience working in or with the book industry (bookselling, publishing, or library supply).
- Familiarity with tendering and procurement processes in education or government sectors.
- Background in email marketing campaigns or using CRM and marketing tools (e.g. Klaviyo, Mailchimp).
