Reading Matters program announced

The program for the 2013 Reading Matters conference, run by the Centre for Youth Literature at the State Library of Victoria (SLV), has been announced.

The conference will kick off with a welcome address from SLV CEO and state librarian Sue Roberts. Among the conference’s sessions are: ‘Is there an app for that?’ featuring Paul Callaghan, John Flanagan and Fiona Wood; ‘Gender less’, in which Myke Bartlett, Libba Bray and Fiona Wood examine identity; and ‘Action!’, in which Gayle Forman, Tim Sinclair and Raina Telgemeier discuss the highs and lows of teen life.

The Reading Matters program also includes solo talks from international guests Keith Gray and Raina Telgemeier and local author Paul Callaghan, and the Inky Awards longlist will be unveiled during the conference.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, this year’s Reading Matters conference will include a one-day ‘unconference’ on 30 May for delegates to share expertise and reading initiatives, a special evening event where attendees will be able to mingle with guest authors, and a student day for children aged from five to 10 years.

Reading Matters runs from 30 May to 1 June. For more information about the event, visit the SLV website here.
