EWF to visit Tasmania

The Emerging Writers’ Festival (EWF) will visit Tasmania for the first time later this year for a three-day roadshow of writing workshops and performances.

The roadshow will be held in Hobart from 31 October to 2 November, with a mix of free and ticketed events at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) and The Grand Poobah bar. EWF director Sam Twyford-Moore told Books+Publishing that the festival has been working with Island magazine on programming, and that a number of Melbourne-based literary journals, including Overland, Meanjin and The Lifted Brow, will be travelling to Hobart for the roadshow. ‘There will be a big focus on the importance of literary magazines for emerging writers,’ said Twyford-Moore.

‘It’s still early days in terms of programming artists, but we hope to both engage local writers as well as bring some interstate writers with us,’ said Twyford-Moore, who added that the festival is also hoping to work with the Tasmanian Writers’ Centre and its writers’ group for young and emerging writers, Twitch. ‘The days will be workshops and conversations around writing, followed by networking opportunities and performance events in the evenings.’

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, the Melbourne-based EWF held similar roadshow events in Sydney in 2012 and 2010, and in Brisbane in 2011.
