QWC announces new fellowship for women writers

The Queensland Writers Centre (QWC) has announced a new fellowship for women writers.

The Maher Fellowship for Women Writers will be awarded to three recipients, with each receiving $500 to pay for course fees, travel, accommodation and other expenses that would otherwise stop them from participating in QWC’s programs.

The fellowship was established by the Vann family in memory of Margaret Maher and Betty Vann (née Maher) to ‘acknowledge their love and support of writing’. In a statement on behalf of the Vann family, past QWC CEO and writer Meg Vann said: ‘My grandmother Margaret Maher was Queensland’s first woman publisher and my mother Betty Vann aspired to be a creative writer but never had the chance.’

Applications close on 7 March. For more information, click here.
