Margaret and Colin Roderick Literary Award 2025 shortlist announced
The shortlist for the 2025 Margaret and Colin Roderick Literary Award, worth $50,000, has been announced by the Foundation for Australian Literary Studies at James Cook University (JCU).
Chosen from over 200 entries, followed by a longlist of ten, the five shortlisted titles are:
- Sanctuary (Garry Disher, Text)
- Look Me in the Eye (Jane Godwin, Lothian Children’s)
- One Another (Gail Jones, Text)
- Disorders of the Blood (Leah Kaminsky, Puncher & Wattmann)
- Fragile Creatures: A Memoir (Khin Myint, Black Inc.).
Founded in 1967, the annual award is named after JCU educator Colin Roderick and his wife Margaret who ‘who collaborated in his literary scholarship and reviewing, enabled a significant increase in prize money for the award last year, and into the future’, said organisers.
The winner will be announced in September and, along with the prize money, will be presented with the silver HT Priestley Memorial Medal at a ceremony in Townsville.
The 2025 judges include Leigh Dale (chair), Townsville journalist Mary Vernon, and La Trobe University professor emerita Susan K Martin, with the assistance of University of Queensland professor emeritus Alan Lawson.
Last year’s winner was Melissa Lucashenko for her novel Edenglassie (UQP).
More information is available on the JCU website.
