Northern Territory Literary Awards 2025 shortlists announced

The Northern Territory Literary Awards 2025 shortlists have been announced.

Chosen from over 240 entries, the shortlisted writers are:

Brown’s Mart Theatre ($1000)

  • Jada Alberts for ‘Black light’
  • Ryanna Clayton for ‘Scrag’
  • Zan Kershaw for ‘Refuge’

Charles Darwin University Creative Nonfiction Award ($500)

  • Dave Clark for ‘Twenty-five cents’
  • Alex Eve for ‘Severance and being seen’

Charles Darwin University Essay Award ($1000)

  • Sophie Collins for ‘Rheumatic heart disease: A call to action on preventable, poverty-attributable deaths in the Northern Territory’
  • Jeanette Shepherd for ‘Climate change, heat, gender and violence: supporting a safer future in the Northern Territory’

Flash Fiction Award ($600)

  • Roland Bull for ‘The important affair of the first male Moneypenny’
  • Satendra Kumar for ‘Silence’
  • Julie Lebreton for ‘My grandma used to love cake’

Kath Manzie Youth Award ($800)

  • Sabrina Leafe for ‘Emotional equilibrium’
  • Jolyn Sun for ‘Five, four, three, two, one’
  • Lucy Tinapple for ‘Deserted’

NT Writers’ Centre Poetry Award ($1000)

  • Sophie Benkemoun for ‘Blood letting’
  • Barbara Eather for ‘Time in our peace’
  • Susan Fielding for ‘River country’
  • Meg Mooney for ‘In the desert where I live’
  • Mitch Mitchell for ‘In the sauna at Lasseters’

Zip Print Short Story Award ($1000)

  • Belinda Mawby for ‘Eternal’
  • A’Mhara McKey for ‘Hell or high water’.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 24 September 2025 at Library & Archives NT and live streamed at Red Kangaroo Books in Alice Springs.
