Big Issue 2025 fiction edition released

The Big Issue has announced the authors chosen for its 21st annual fiction edition.

The 2025 edition includes short stories from 11 writers. Stories were selected from more than 863 submissions, with the selection panel including agent Danielle Binks, writer and critic Claire Cao, writer and editor Ben Hickey, Melbourne vendor Mariann B, and the Big Issue editorial team.

Featured writers are Alexandra O’Sullivan, Eilish Alexander, Ellen van Neerven, Joshua Lee Shimmen, Joshua Tristan Woo, Julia Richardson, Lilian James, Sam Sweeney, Stephanie Westwood and Zana Fraillon. The edition is illustrated by Adelaide artist Chris Edser.

A grant from the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund allowed the Big Issue to include an additional eight pages in this year’s fiction edition.

As well as buying from vendors, readers can purchase the magazine online through the Big Issue Shopify store or purchase a subscription to the magazine and support its Women’s Workforce enterprise.

The fiction edition is on sale now. More information is available on the Big Issue website.
