S&S ANZ appoints Curry as MD

Simon & Schuster Australia and New Zealand (S&S ANZ) has named Jane Curry as its new managing director, after the departure of Dan Ruffino.

UK-born Curry, currently managing director of Ventura Press, has held executive leadership roles at Quarto ANZ, Macmillan and Weldon Publishing. S&S ANZ described her as “a highly experienced publishing executive with a long history of effective leadership, strategic thinking, and successful delivery of global initiatives”.

Curry has served on the boards of the Copyright Agency, A New Approach, the Brisbane Writers Festival and the Australian Publishers Association. She also co-hosts The Publisher and the Writer podcast and is a regular industry commentator in trade media.

Curry said, “When Perminder Mann offered me the MD role with S&S ANZ, it was immediately clear what a fantastic opportunity it represented to use my experience, publishing skills and digital outlook to contribute meaningfully to the S&S global reset.

“The vision for the company is bold and energising, and to be invited to play a part in shaping that future is both an honour and privilege. The opportunity to lead S&S ANZ, a market I know and love, while also joining the international management team is one I embrace with gusto.”

Simon & Schuster UK and international CEO Perminder Mann said, “She is a proven leader and a natural relationship builder, with exceptional commercial acumen and a strong track record of driving impactful and meaningful digital innovation. Jane brings an energy and vision that perfectly align with the ambitions we have for our ANZ business.”

“Her deep understanding of the local publishing landscape, from author care to market dynamics, combined with her extensive experience in distribution-driven publishing, gives her a unique and powerful perspective on how to grow and future-proof a modern publishing operation. She understands what readers want, what authors need, and how to position a business for sustained, long-term success.”

The appointment is effective from 19 January 2026. Curry will report to Mann.
