Allen & Unwin congratulates Alan Stevns OAM

All at Allen & Unwin are delighted to see the long-time contribution of the Stevns family to Australian literature recognised by Alan Stevns becoming a Member of the Order of Australia. Niels Stevns, who established Vogel’s in Australia, wanted to give back to his adopted country and set up the Australian/Vogel’s Literary Award in 1980. Niels’ son Alan maintained Vogel’s commitment, and for over forty years the Award has led to the publication of more than two hundred books by young Australian writers.

Vogel’s has contributed well over a million dollars to young writers over the period of the Award, giving a start to numerous authors including Tim Winton, Kate Grenville, Andrew McGahan, Mandy Sayer and Rohan Wilson. Allen & Unwin has been privileged to share in such an outstanding example of private sponsorship of Australian literature.
