Disney to launch digital subscription service in Europe

Disney is launching a digital subscription service that bundles movies, books, TV series and music in the one app, reports TechCrunch. The DisneyLife service, which will launch in the UK next month and in other European countries in 2016, will be priced at £9.99 (A$21.33) a month and include books published by Disney Publishing Worldwide, TV shows from the Disney Channel, classic Disney movies and content from the Pixar catalogue. The service will not include content from Disney properties Star Wars and Marvel, however, Disney CEO Bob Iger told the Financial Times that additional subscriptions services for these properties may be introduced in the future. ‘We’re seeing more and more opportunities to reach consumers directly and not through middlemen, and we’re seeing consumers wanting product in different ways,’ said Iger. The service will initially be available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
